how to get the middle string you need something like that

declare @text varchar(64)
set @text = '123|456|798'
SELECT SUBSTRING(@text,CHARINDEX('|', @text) + 1,LEN(@text) - CHARINDEX('|', @text) - CHARINDEX('|', REVERSE(@text)) )
